Automobile Stunts by Bill Spicer

My father took me to automobile thrill shows when I was a boy in the 50's and 60's. He was influenced by the late Lucky Teter of the 30's renown for his 100 foot ramp-to-ramp jump (which eventually killed him). I was captivated by the precision driving, stunts and crashes performed by Joie Chitwood and their rival the Tournament of Thrills. I was quick to try rollovers with my peddle car. I studied film footage and spoke with drivers from both professional shows. I was ready for the real thing. Owning a video production company gave me the opportunity to perform a variety of car stunts for my TV commercial clients including lawyers, car dealers and highway safety commission. These included car rolls, ramp-to-ramp jumps, 2-wheeling, drifts and water submersions. Although the stunts were very mild, safety was always paramount and neither my crew nor I were ever hurt.
