In 1854 the lawyer Louis BOULOMIE, having come to Contrexeville to look after his health, acquired the Fontaine de Gérémoy, a well known source in the area of Vittel and reputed to have diuretic qualities. In 1856 he built a small pavilion for the first bottling plant. Its special properties very quickly became the catalyst for an Spa establishment. Thermal spas experienced a great boom in this area and spa towns were transformed into pleasure towns. A new kind of luxurious and splendid architecture began to appear around these thermal spas. In Vittel, it is the close collaboration between the BOULOUMIE family and the great architects of the period which have made it such a unique city. Through its luxury hotels and lush greenery, VITTEL has not lost its taste for beauty and well-being and continues to improve upon the grandeur of its past.
