“Carretera Austral: A road to remember” Bocalee’s photos around Futaleufu, Chile

By the way, we're officially in Patagonia, have been since Bariloche. The road is dirt and gravel, but generally in quite good shape. The scenery is wonderful. The towns are small, and feel secluded although they are pretty touristy: Futaleufu. This is a very small town, know for excellent whitewater rafting. Unfortunately it was a little cold and I was feeling under the weather. I slept about 12 hours. But before that, I went to the local rodeo which was going on that weekend. The next morning I needed to find some gas as I was very low, but with no gas station in town got 10 liters from the local mechanic, at a nice premium. Puyuhuapi. A stranger thing happens south of Futa. The greenery gets bigger and more lush, and things start to resemble the northwest a bit. This town is really cute, and it's on what looks like a lake but is actually salt water, and inlet from the Pacific. I stayed at Casa Ludwig, a charming B&B. It's really an idyllic setting. The innkeeper, Jamie, is an American from Maine most recently, and loves to sail. He build a wooden sailboat in his garage, and it looked beautiful. Jamie said he always needs to live by the salt water. He met his wife, a German (sorry can't remember the name), in Chile, and they found this ... |
