Police Officer Found Not Guilty Of Assaulting Army Vet
| A city police officer caught on camera beating a handcuffed Army veteran has been acquitted on all charges. The jury found 15-year New York City Police Department veteran David London not guilty of assault and falsifying records among other charges Monday. The incident was caught on surveillance cameras inside an Upper West Side apartment building two years ago. The video showed London beating the unarmed Walter Harvin with a baton multiple times. London says he continued to hit Harvin because the Army veteran kept kicking him and threatened to kill him. His lawyer says the security camera that captured the incident did not have audio of Harvin making the threats. Harvin's family says they're outraged by the verdict. "They handcuffed him and they beat him like an animal. If you beat a dog, you going to jail. If you do this to a dog, then they get of on all counts? You call this justice?" said Harvin's aunt, Roxanna Jones. "The cops are supposed to protect and serve. If you see the video, that ain't protect and serve. That's do whatever you want to do and get away with it," said Harvin's uncle, Earl Jones. Harvin was initially charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct, but those charges were dismissed. |
