LAPD Releases Photos of Possible ‘Grim Sleeper’ Victims
| Transcript by (www.newsy.com) You're watching multisource US news analysis on Newsy.com The Los Angeles Police Department is enlisting the public's help in identifying possible victims of the man suspected of being the 'Grim Sleeper' serial killer, Lonnie Franklin, Jr. The moniker references the fact that many believe the Grim Sleeper was inactive from 1988 to 2002. Police raided Franklin's home back in July and discovered more than a thousand photos and hundreds of hours of video in his home. Reports indicate some of the pictured women are partially or fully naked, and others appear to be dead or asleep. The LAPD cropped each photo to just a head and shoulders before the release. Some of the photographs are duplicates, and others only show identifying markers such as a tattoo. In a press conference posted by CBS affiliate KCAL, the Los Angeles Chief of Police explains the decision to post the pictures online. BECK "These people are not suspects. We don't even know if they're victims, but we do know this: Lonnie Franklin's reign of terror in the city of Los Angeles was spanned well over two decades, culminating in almost a dozen victims. Certainly needs to be investigated further. And we certainly do not believe that we are so lucky or so good as to know all his victims. We need the public's help."
