| From BBC News (Part of an FAQ): Why was Mr Blair recalled? Inquiry chairman Sir John Chilcot said the panel needed "clarification" in some areas before it begins writing its report and that Mr Blair could offer "important recollections" of decisions taken in the run-up to war. In October, it said it would ask witnesses to appear again if there were "gaps in the evidence" provided since the hearings began in November 2009. As well as Mr Blair, former Foreign Secretary Jack Straw and former Chief of the Defence Staff Lord Boyce are also appearing for a second occasion within the next month. What was Mr Blair asked about? Mr Blair was pressed on whether he gave any private assurances to US President George W. Bush that the UK would take part in military action, effectively sidelining the Cabinet. He was also asked about the advice given to him by Lord Goldsmith and whether he disregarded concerns expressed by the former attorney general about the legal basis for war. He was also questioned about failings in post-war planning. What did Mr Blair say? The former prime minister did not back away from arguments he made when he first appeared before the inquiry almost a year ago. While disarming Iraq, not regime change in itself, was the reason for sending UK troops into battle, he was convinced that Iraq needed to be confronted and the world was a safer place with Saddam out of power.
