Poisonous Food Parcel Smells Of Sibling Rivalry & Family Abuse. No Secrets?
| Families are not what they always seem to be. Following my father's stroke on Feb 4th 1999, I put my life on hold and arranged to be by his bedside and looking after his affairs as soon as possible. It took me three days to sort myself out and travel 200 miles to be with him. My sister who had a four week holiday booked for March which she arranged the previous year made no changes apart from extending her holiday for a fortnight and taking over her father's bungalow making it perfectly clear that I was not welcome during that time, despite the family crisis. While she was in charge of his bungalow she chose to sell some of his belongings, lie to me about how much she'd received but admitted to using the money to live on. I knew she was lying when I asked her how much she'd received for an Edwardian Tallboy and she paused for a few seconds as she tried feebly to think of a credible sum, assuming stupidity on my part, and came back with "Fifty Canadian dollars" !!! Yeah right since when have english furniture dealers paid for items in Canadian dollars ??? I later discovered that at the time Edwardian tallboys were retailing in the region of £1000 each. When I suggested I arrived the night before she was due to depart so we could have a family evening together she said over the phone "That's not a good idea"!
